POWERgasket - sealing for non-flush surfaces solves problems caused by insufficient elasticity of the seal and prevents leakage of pollutants. Also suitable for applications with a low initial tightening torque or where flange cooling and heating are involved.

  • Due to its design, the gasket is able to seal even flange blades bent from previous tightenings.
  • The most economical solution when low leakage emissions and cyclic thermal stresses are required.

Design

The functional parts of this seal consist of two corrugated metal cores that are coated with flexible graphite of varying density and thickness. The gaskets thus produced are attached to a metallic intermediate ring.

  • The design provides better sealing properties than standard gaskets.

The wavy shape increases the ability to return to its original state and reduces the surface area of the seal at the beginning of tightening. It also reduces the amount of seating pressure required to make the seal functional. This results in bolt stability and increased stability of contact force during temperature cycles.

The manufacturing process of applying graphite to the surface of the metal core ensures that it is applied without the pores found in graphite plate gaskets.

  • The seal thickness of 9.4 mm prevents the outer diameters of the flanges from sealing against each other.
  • The deformation of the seal during installation is a minimum of 2 mm.

Advantages

Normally, graphite is applied to the metal core in only one density and thus the gasket provides the advantages of only this one density.

  1. Graphite is applied to the POWERgasket, a gasket for non-parallel surfaces, in both low and high densities, giving the gasket the benefits of both values.
  2. Expanded graphite contains a passive oxidation and corrosion inhibitor. The inhibitor prevents corrosion on the sealing surfaces and increases the working temperature in the oxidizing atmosphere up to 525 °C.
