Metal Gaskets – Reliable Sealing at High Pressures and Temperatures

Metal and semi-metal gaskets are the choice for flange joints where standard soft gaskets are insufficient – especially under high pressures, temperatures, or aggressive media. They combine the strength of a metal core with the adaptability of a soft sealing layer made of graphite, PTFE, or mica. The result is a gasket that withstands cyclic pressure and temperature changes, compensates for uneven flange compression, and in the case of corrugated gaskets, allows for the reuse of the metal core after replacing the sealing layer.

Industries and Typical Applications

Metal Gaskets We Supply:

  • POWERseal RTJ – metal sealing rings for pressures up to 1,500 bar and temperatures up to 1,000 °C; types R (oval/octagonal, according to API 6A and ANSI B16.20), RX (utilizes the increase in medium pressure to enhance sealing) and BX (designed for up to 1,380 bar according to API 6A)
  • POWERgasket KP – camprofile gaskets made of a metal core with a sealing layer of graphite, PTFE or mica; the core can be reused after replacing the layer; also available as partition gaskets for heat exchangers
  • POWERgasket for non-parallel surfaces – corrugated gasket with graphite of two different densities; addresses insufficient elasticity, seals bent or damaged flanges; up to +525 °C; protected by EU industrial design
  • DynaGraph – corrugated gasket for heat exchangers; graphite with both low and high density; suitable for cyclic temperature changes and low emission leaks; custom manufacturing with partitions
  • POWERgasket wrapped – metal wrapped gaskets in combinations of materials: aluminum, copper, brass, soft steel, Monel, stainless steel, graphite or ceramic; diameters up to 1,000 mm from a single piece, larger diameters are welded
  • Lens Gaskets – spherical shape ensures high specific pressure with a small sealing area; resistant to over-tightening; manufactured according to DIN 2696 or industry standards

We will help you choose the right type of gasket for your pressure, temperature, and flange type.

What is the difference between types R, RX, and BX RTJ rings?

Type R (oval or octagonal) is the standard RTJ ring according to API 6A and ANSI B16.20 – both profiles are interchangeable in modern flanges. Type RX utilizes the increase in internal medium pressure to enhance sealing efficiency and is interchangeable with type R. Type BX is designed for the most demanding high-pressure applications up to 1,380 bar (20,000 psi) – with proper installation, the flanges contact at both the inner and outer diameters, eliminating the risk of leakage.

Why is the hardness of the material important for RTJ gaskets?

To avoid damaging the groove in the flange, the material of the ring should be approximately 30 Brinells softer than the flange material. With the correct hardness difference, sufficient plastic deformation of the ring occurs, ensuring sealing without wearing out the groove. Material selection depends on chemical compatibility with the medium and the flange material – we offer a wide range of materials for various combinations.

When to choose camprofile gaskets instead of spiral wound ones?

Camprofile gaskets are advantageous where high demands for repeated disassembly and assembly are placed – the metal core can be reused after replacing the sealing layer, reducing operational costs. They better compensate for uneven flange compression and installation errors. Spiral wound gaskets, on the other hand, are more suitable for standard flange joints with regular replacement. If you are unsure, we can advise you.

Can metal gaskets be custom made?

Yes. We manufacture camprofile gaskets, DynaGraph, and wrapped gaskets in non-standard dimensions and with partitions according to customer drawings – typically for heat exchangers and special industrial equipment. RTJ rings and lens gaskets are supplied according to API, ANSI, or industry standards. Contact us with your drawing or specification.
