Thread sealant

Seals for threaded and bolted joints serve to ensure tightness at the connection point of individual components. The range includes PTFE sealing tapes, GTS graphite sealing paste, and USIT screw seals for various operating conditions.

These values are approximate and may be influenced by other factors. We will be happy to consult with our expert to make sure you make the right choice.

Sealing of threaded and bolted joints

Threaded and bolted joints may require different sealing methods depending on the joint design, operating temperature, pressure, and medium. The sealing element can be applied directly to the thread or at the contact surface of the bolted joint.

For sealing threads, we supply PTFE sealing tapes and GTS graphite sealing paste. For sealing bolted joints, USIT bolt sealing is intended, which consists of a metal washer with a vulcanized elastomer sealing.

The choice of sealing method is also related to the design and assembly of the bolted joint. More information can be found in the sections Torque values and Seizing of bolts.

What type of sealing for threaded or bolted joints should be chosen?

The choice depends on the design of the joint, operating temperature, pressure, and medium. PTFE tape and GTS paste are applied directly to the thread, while USIT sealing gaskets seal the joint at the contact surface.

When to use GTS and when to use PTFE tape?

GTS is particularly suitable for smaller thread diameters with narrow tolerances and applications at higher temperatures. PTFE tape can be used in a temperature range from −200 to +260 °C, with a higher density tape recommended for high-pressure equipment.

How to choose the appropriate USIT sealing gasket?

When selecting a USIT gasket, the size of the joint, operating temperature, and medium are crucial. Based on these conditions, the appropriate material for the metal washer and elastomer is chosen.
