Flange Self-Adhesive Tapes – Fast and Reliable Sealing Without Cutting

Flange self-adhesive sealing tapes are the ideal solution for sealing flange joints without the need for cutting or custom die-cut gaskets. The POWERflon series tapes are made from expanded PTFE – either unidirectionally or multidirectionally oriented – and differ in specific weight, stiffness, and resistance to cold flow. For high-temperature applications and sealing surface repairs, we supply the ribbed graphite tape POWERgraf Cor. The self-adhesive layer allows for precise and quick installation even on irregular and damaged flanges.

Industries and Typical Applications

Flange sealing tapes we supply:

  • POWERflon BG – multidirectionally oriented ePTFE; best adaptability and elasticity, minimal cold flow, suitable for tongue-and-groove joints
  • POWERflon Uni – unidirectional ePTFE; universal type for steel, aluminum, glass, plastic, ceramics, and enamel; material does not age
  • POWERflon HD – unidirectional ePTFE with higher specific gravity; narrower tape seals higher pressure; maintains residual thickness of the seal
  • POWERflon FR – ePTFE with inorganic stabilizing fillers; better performance at high temperatures and cyclic loading
  • POWERgraf Cor – corrugated film made of expanded graphite (thickness 0.38 and 0.50 mm); for the production of sealing rings, spiral-wound seals, and repair of sealing surfaces
  • All types of POWERflon are available with a self-adhesive layer; POWERgraf Cor also in a version with a self-adhesive layer for on-site installation

We will help you choose the right type of tape for your flange type, medium, and operating conditions.

What is the difference between unidirectionally and multidirectionally oriented ePTFE?

Multidirectionally oriented ePTFE (type BG) is uniformly flexible in all directions – it adapts better to the irregularities of the flange and exhibits the lowest cold flow. Unidirectional ePTFE (types Uni, HD, FR) is stiffer along the load axis, making it suitable for standard flange joints where precise tightening and residual thickness of the seal are emphasized.

Can sealing tapes be used on damaged or uneven flanges?

Yes – this is one of the main advantages of ePTFE tapes. In particular, type POWERflon BG due to its high adaptability can seal flanges with uneven surfaces or minor damage, and this at a significantly lower tightening torque than traditional flat seals. POWERflon HD then allows sealing of irregularities while maintaining residual thickness.

What is the maximum temperature for using POWERflon sealing tapes?

Expanded PTFE tapes are thermally stable in the range of approximately −200 °C to +260 °C (short-term up to +280 °C). Type POWERflon FR with inorganic fillers retains its properties even under cyclic thermal stress. The graphite tape POWERgraf Cor is suitable for temperatures up to +550 °C (and higher in an inert atmosphere).

What is the purpose of the POWERgraf Cor graphite tape?

POWERgraf Cor is a corrugated film made of expanded graphite primarily intended for production – it serves as raw material for pressed sealing rings and spiral-wound seals. It can be used on-site to seal dividing planes or to refurbish the sealing layer of comb seals. The corrugation increases the strength and ductility of the film, making it easier to process and shape.
