Calcium hypochlorite is a white, granular or powdery solid that has a strong chlorine-like odour. It is commonly used as a disinfectant and bleaching agent, also as an oxidizing agent in water treatment, swimming pools and sanitary facilities, used to purify water and to combat bacteria, algae and other micro-organisms in industrial water systems, and also to disinfect drinking water and treat wastewater.
