Coke oven gas is a by-product of the coking process used to produce coke, a fuel used primarily in the steel industry. It is a mixture of gases that are captured and collected during the coking process and consists mainly of methane, nitrogen and carbon monoxide. It can be used as a fuel source for power generation and heating, but must be cleaned and processed to remove impurities such as tar and ammonia before use.
