Dichlorvos is an organophosphate insecticide and acaricide. It is a clear, colourless liquid with a characteristic pungent odour. It is used to control a wide range of insects and mites in a variety of environments, including agriculture, in homes and buildings, and in public health. It works by inhibiting the activity of an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system of insects and other invertebrates.
