DES, Sulfuric Acid Diethyl Ester
Diethyl sulfate (DES) is a colorless, oily liquid with a strong, pungent odor. It is used as a reagent in organic synthesis, particularly in the production of other chemicals such as esters, amides and ethers. In addition, it is used as a methylation agent in the production of pharmaceuticals and other organic compounds. However, diethyl sulfate is a highly toxic and corrosive chemical and must be handled with care. Its use is restricted in some countries and industries.
