Natural gas is a mixture of hydrocarbons, mainly methane, with trace gases. It is widely used as a fuel for heating, cooking and electricity generation. Colourless and almost odourless in its natural state, it is additionally odour treated for safety. Its use extends into transport as a vehicle fuel. Natural gas is more environmentally friendly than some other fuels, reducing greenhouse gas and sulphur emissions.
