Crude nitric acid is a dark coloured oily liquid consisting of a mixture of nitric acid and other nitrogenous compounds. It is produced by the oxidation of ammonia and is used in the manufacture of fertilizers, explosives and other nitrogenous compounds. It is highly corrosive and should be handled with care as it can cause skin and eye irritation.
