Alkyl aryl sulfonic acids are a class of organic compounds that contain both an alkyl and an aryl group bonded to a sulfur atom, which is also bonded to a carboxyl group. These compounds are strong acids and are often used as surfactants in detergents, cleaners and emulsifiers. They are also used in the manufacture of plastics, rubber and textiles and in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and other chemicals.
