Ammonium phosphate is a white crystalline solid that is highly soluble in water and forms a weakly acidic solution when dissolved in water. Ammonium phosphate is used as a fertilizer, flame retardant and laboratory reagent. It is also used in the manufacture of chemicals, pharmaceuticals and food additives. Ammonium phosphate can be harmful if large amounts are ingested or inhaled. It is also an irritant and can cause skin and eye irritation.

It is used in refrigeration and applications where the seal is exposed to external weathering.
