Beet pulp is a by-product of the sugar industry, produced by grinding and drying the residue left after extracting the juice from the beet. It is used as a feed ingredient for livestock, especially ruminants, and as a source of fibre and nutrients in animal feed. Beet pulp is also used as a natural food additive and natural sweetener in various products, including beverages, confectionery and baked goods. The consumption of beet pulp is generally safe, but it can cause side effects such as allergic reactions and digestive problems in some people.
