Cod liver oil is a type of fish oil extracted from cod liver oil, rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A and D and other nutrients. It has a distinctive fishy smell and taste. It is traditionally used as a dietary supplement and as a treatment for various health problems such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and heart disease. Excessive intake of vitamin A can be toxic, and it is advisable to consult a doctor or health professional before taking it as a dietary supplement.
