37-40% solution of formaldehyde in water
Formalin is a solution of formaldehyde in water, usually at a concentration of 37 %. Formalin is a clear, colourless liquid with a strong pungent odour. It is used as a preservative, disinfectant and sterilant in a wide range of industries and applications. It is used to preserve biological samples in laboratories, to disinfect and preserve fish, meat and other foods, and to preserve and sterilize medical and dental instruments.
