Chloracetophenone is an organic compound and a type of tear gas. It is a white crystalline solid that is widely used as a riot control agent and as a spray for personal defense. It acts by causing irritation and inflammation of the eyes, nose and throat and by producing a burning sensation on the skin. It is highly toxic if swallowed, inhaled or in contact with skin and can be fatal in high doses.
