Captan is a fungicide and pesticide. It is a man-made chemical that is used to control a wide range of plant pathogens, including those that cause diseases in fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants. The compound has relatively low toxicity to mammals, birds and aquatic organisms, but may be harmful to some species of beneficial insects and is listed by some authorities as a possible human carcinogen.
