Kerosene (lamp kerosene; DIN 51636) is a colourless or slightly yellow liquid used as fuel in kerosene lamps. It has a low viscosity and a high hydrocarbon content. It is suitable for lighting purposes, although modern light sources have led to restrictions on its use. Precautions should be taken in handling due to flammability and possible exposure.
