Trichloroacetic acid (TCAA) is a strong organic acid that is used in a variety of applications, such as a laboratory reagent, industrial cleaner, and in medicine to cauterize skin tissue and for chemical peels. It is a colourless crystalline solid that is soluble in water and organic solvents. It is highly corrosive and can cause severe burns on contact with the skin.
