Acidic fuel oil means fuel oil that has a pH less than 7. Acidic fuel oil can be caused by a number of factors, including the presence of sulphur, water or other contaminants in the fuel oil. Acidic fuel oil can cause a number of problems, including corrosion of fuel system components, clogging of fuel filters, and reduced engine efficiency and performance. Fuel oil acidity can also increase engine wear.
